What Should I Bring?
Be sure to dress for success! Your first impression is always a lasting impression. Before meeting with an employer, think about what they may see when you first approach their booth. If you take pride in your career and you want an employer to notice you over all the other candidates, make sure you show it. A poor appearance detracts from all aspects of you and your qualifications.
The “dos”
- Be professionally attired. Your attire should be clean and well maintained.
- Greet the employer with a smile. Extending a gracious and energetic greeting is one of the many ways you can make a difference. Employers are looking for a candidate who is passionate about their career and will give a 110%.
- Be attentive and have attentive posture. Body language is 85% of our communication. Be alert and confident. Have an upright posture, indicating an eagerness to work for their company.
The “do not”
- Unprofessional attire. Don’t show up in your everyday street clothes (sweat pants, ripped jeans, tank tops). Go the extra mile with your apparel. Your appearance will be the first impact you will have on an employer.
- Improper language. Don’t use slang or unprofessional language while speaking with them. Use proper etiquette and vocabulary during the entire conversation. Respond to them with “yes” or “I see” rather than “uh-huh” or “yeah”.
- If you are looking for a long term career, remember that you need to “sell” yourself. By following the listed guidelines, you are making every effort to show that you care about yourself and future opportunities with their company. When you visit each booth, think of how your first impression will make all the difference in the world. Good luck in your future endeavors!
